SFO West Cargo

McCarthy completed the design-build of the 90,000-square-foot West Cargo Facility in just 15.5 months, including aircraft apron improvements, demolition of the existing facility, and full construction of a new building with advanced systems such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and dynamic glass exterior glazing. Built on an active airport, the project required close coordination with Airfield Operations, multiple relocations of the airfield separation fence, and FAA-permitted crane use to avoid service disruptions. A major power shutdown was carefully managed to connect permanent power. The facility was designed with high-efficiency HVAC, sustainable features to minimize environmental impact, and flexible office and warehouse space to meet future tenant needs. Through strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement, the team delivered a safe, efficient, and high-performing cargo hub built for long-term operational success.
