SFO ITB Phase 1 and Phase 2

Enhancing Passenger Experience Through Modernization and Security

San Francisco, CA

Phase 1
Phase 1 of the International Terminal Building (ITB) Renovation at San Francisco International Airport enhanced the Departures Level to support increased international travel and improve the passenger experience. Upgrades included expanded TSA checkpoints at Boarding Areas A and G, new security technology, larger recomposure zones, increased duty-free retail space, and restroom renovations meeting SFO’s REACH standards.

Phase 2
Now underway, Phase 2 focuses on both Departures and Arrivals levels. It converts select baggage claim units for international use, adds Automated Passport Control, consolidates secondary screening, and repurposes former immigration spaces for CBP and airport functions. All work occurs in the active Federal Inspection Service area, maintaining 24/7 CBP operations and meeting safety and guest experience requirements.
