Delta Airlines Lines Relocation Project

Executing the Largest Airline Relocation in U.S. History

Los Angeles, CA

The Delta Air Lines Relocation Project at LAX—nicknamed the “LAX Terminal Shuffle” and “Airmageddon”—was the largest airline relocation in U.S. aviation history, involving the move of Delta and 28 other airlines. Delta transitioned from Terminals 5 and 6 to Terminals 2 and 3 as part of a long-term plan to link with the Tom Bradley International Terminal, expanding flight capacity and international operations. Extensive preconstruction planning, testing, and coordination enabled the seamless execution of teardowns, builds, and relocations over just three nights without disrupting flight schedules. McCarthy led a 24/7 effort across five terminals and 125 work areas—ranging from baggage systems to IT rooms—successfully completing the high-stakes project on time through close collaboration with airport staff, airlines, and stakeholders.
